Eclipse Foundation member companies announce initiative to provide solution for automated AJAX application testing
October 31, 2011 –
Braunschweig and Karlsruhe - BREDEX GmbH and EclipseSource are pleased to
announce their collaboration in the field of automated testing for AJAX and RAP
applications. EclipseSource is the company behind the Rich Ajax Platform (RAP),
a platform for creating rich web applications, and BREDEX GmbH is the
manufacturer of the automated test tool GUIdancer and its Eclipse Open Source
counterpart Jubula. The two companies have agreed to implement support for the
ARIA standard (Accessible Rich Internet Applications) in their products, thus
making RAP applications testable by GUIdancer.
ARIA was implemented by the Web Accessibility Initiative as a means of making
modern, AJAX-enabled websites and web applications accessible to customers with
disabilities. By offering a mechanism to allow screen readers to recognize
components on the screen, ARIA also paves the way for improved component
recognition for various web technologies.
“Whereas design for testability is a common theme in desktop applications, web
developers have not previously had standard methods available to simplify or
directly enable automated testing” said Achim Lörke, a Managing Director at
BREDEX GmbH. “By combining BREDEX’s expertise in testing with EclipseSource’s
experience and competence in web and desktop development, we are pleased to be
able to integrate the ARIA standard into the products of both companies to
offer improved testability in the web and RAP domain.“
Jochen Krause, Managing Director of EclipseSource, added “With AJAX apps
becoming mainstream for large enterprises and in the public sector, both
Accessibility and Automated GUI Testing become critical success factors. Our
partnership with BREDEX helps us to stay on the forefront of AJAX
technologies.”
“This is a great example of the synergies within the Eclipse Ecosystem,” said
Ralph Mueller, Director of the Eclipse European Ecosystem. “The community
leaders have the skills and vision, and Eclipse technologies provide a sound
basis for open innovation.”
The development teams of both companies will be working on a unified solution
over the coming months, and plan to present results of their work at EclipseCon
2012 in Reston, VA.
